July 27

Catcher/Equipment Manager Jim Senay appears to have taken on a new position with the Veterans Softball Club.

Jim was seen in conversation with a couple of Cuban ball players at Collingwood Park last week. Could it be Jim has turned to scouting out new talent for the Vets? Stay tuned!

July 20

The Veterans Softball team established a new record during the game against Vancouver Film Studio on July 16th.

The Vets have walked a record 66 times this season surpassing the team record for Bases on Balls (61 - 2002). With three regular season games remaining how many more can we add to that total?

July 3

A big 'Thank You' to Fred Hawkshaw for arranging & hosting the 'Extra Innings Club' road trip to Earls on Lougheed. Great service and good food was enjoyed by all!

If you were unable to attend this past Wednesday plan to visit soon. Check out Fred's name on the front door. We didn't know Fred was such a 'Big Wheel'.

July 3

Congratulations to Paul Wuttunee on becoming the sixth player in Veterans history to hit for the 'cycle'.
(Hitting a Single, Double, Triple, & Home Run in a single game)

Paul, the only bright light for the Vets against the Industrial Glue, had hits in all five at-bats. 1 single, 1 double, 2 triples & 1 Home Run.
Unfortunately, Paul will be lost to the club for the next two weeks as he heads south for a well-deserved vacation. Way to go Paul !!!

The Veterans Softball Club wish to express their sincerest condolences to Al Jackson & his family on the passing of Al's father — Merv Jackson.

March 2

The Veterans will have a new face this season. Contract negotiations have been finalized and Fred Hawkshaw has agreed to play for the Vets in 2003. Fred was recruited by our Tammy Daly.

Tammy's scouting report below.

"In regards to Fred...yes, he would totally fit in with the team.

He is in his 30s and is the Kitchen Leader (Chef) at Earls. So he is not some young punk who is going to dick around etc.! He has played ball before but I personally have never seen him play...really ...how bad can he be?!

He is an extremely nice guy and his schedule is flexible because he basically makes his own....he most likely won't miss a game. He is very excited and is willing to play any position and as much or little as we need.

I have explained to him how it works sometimes with sharing positions etc. Remember I brought Michelle to the team and she is a gem...right?!

You can trust my judgement but I take no responsibility if he ends up being a disaster...you know...murdering the whole team etc.!!!!"
